At Christy’s Foundation Food Relief Program, we are always looking for ways to not only serve more families in need but also to grow future leaders in the fight against food insecurity. We are proud to share that our services are expanding, and we will be welcoming two new mentees from the University of Southern California (USC) to join our mission.

Mentorship and Leadership

Christy Dawson, Founder of Christy’s Foundation, has dedicated her life to building programs that provide hope, dignity, and nutritious food to families across the San Fernando Valley. Beyond her leadership at the foundation, Christy is passionate about mentorship. As a mentor, she is committed to guiding the next generation of community leaders—sharing her knowledge, experiences, and vision to inspire others to make lasting change.

Bringing USC mentees into our organization is an exciting step forward. These students will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit management, community outreach, and event planning, while directly contributing to the fight against hunger.

Understanding Food Insecurity

Food insecurity is one of the most pressing issues facing families today. Rising food prices and limited access to healthy groceries mean that too many parents must choose between paying bills and putting food on the table. At Christy’s Foundation, we address this challenge head-on by distributing 30,000 pounds of groceries weekly, hosting seasonal giveaways, and running educational programs that teach families how to prepare healthy meals with the food they receive.

Our work is more than handing out groceries—it’s about creating community, spreading hope, and empowering families.

Mentor Responsibilities

Mentors at Christy’s Foundation play a vital role in shaping the future of nonprofit leadership. Their responsibilities include:

  • Guidance & Support – Providing direction, encouragement, and insight to mentees.
  • Skill Development – Sharing expertise in areas like nonprofit management, fundraising, event coordination, and community outreach.
  • Professional Growth – Helping mentees develop leadership skills, confidence, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
  • Hands-On Experience – Involving mentees in real-world projects, from organizing food distributions to engaging with donors and volunteers.
  • Community Engagement – Teaching the importance of building strong relationships with families, local officials, sponsors, and partner organizations.

By welcoming mentees into this program, we are not only expanding Christy’s Foundation’s reach but also creating a ripple effect—empowering young leaders who will continue this vital work for years to come.

Together, we are building stronger communities, feeding families, and mentoring tomorrow’s changemakers.
